Parental Guidance Will Protect You
Proverbs 6:22-23 (NLT)- “When you walk, their counsel will lead you. When you sleep, they will protect you. When you wake up, they will advise you. For their command is a lamp and their instruction a light; their corrective discipline is the way to life.”
Parental guidance is one of the earliest and most enduring gifts a person receives. The consistent counsel of parents begins to shape our values, decisions, and purpose. When parents intentionally teach, correct, and model wisdom, they are laying a foundation for life’s course. Their counsel “will lead you” when you walk because those lessons, once planted, continue to guide your steps even when they are no longer physically present.
Even when we sleep, their sound instructions will protect you from dangers we may never even recognize. A disciplined life formed through parental correction and guidance creates boundaries that limit impulsivity and safeguard our future. Even in seasons of rest or vulnerability, the values instilled in us act like a shield, preserving us from harmful paths and unnecessary consequences.
Finally, their commands no matter how harsh they come act as a lamp and light to illuminate life’s journey. Correction is meant to direct toward life and growth by sharpens ing our judgment and ensuring that you “wake up,” and equip yourself with clarity and discernment. Embracing this guidance allows you to walk confidently, avoid destructive decisions, and live a fulfilling life.
Prayer Point:
Lord, thank You for the gift of guidance through those You have placed in my life. Help me to value and apply wise instruction, even when it comes through correction in Jesus name. Amen.
