Don’t be Fooled By Appearances
Proverbs 6:24-25 (NLT)- “It will keep you from the immoral woman, from the smooth tongue of a promiscuous woman. Don’t lust for her beauty. Don’t let her coy glances seduce you.”
As children of God we must be careful what draws our attention, because not everything that looks good carries good intentions. Temptation comes often with a glance, a flattering word, or curiosity left unchecked. Therefore guarding your heart starts with recognizing that your desires need direction, control and pruning.
The wisdom in today’s passage urges us to set boundaries early, before emotions take control. A smooth tongue reflects manipulation by words that sound sweet but are meant to mislead. Not everyone who speaks kindly to you has your best interest at heart. Discernment is required to pause, reflect, and act according to your values.
Finally when we value our future we become less vulnerable to distractions that could derail us. Parental guidance is essential in ensuring that we take decisions that protect our heart so we don’t suffer heartbreaks in the near future. This passage is a call to honor ourselves by choosing integrity over momentary pleasure. Attraction is natural, but discipline is learned.
Prayer Point:
Dear Lord, please give me the wisdom to recognize temptation before it takes root and strengthen my discernment so I am not led astray by appearances or empty words. Amen.
