TREASURING GOD’S COMMANDS

Proverbs 2:1 (NLT): “My child, listen to what I say, and treasure my commands.”

A treasure is someone or something of great value, carefully guarded and handled with intention. In this verse, God calls us to treat His commands as precious treasures. This places a responsibility on believers to intentionally seek out, understand, and preserve God’s instructions for our lives.

Beyond the Ten Commandments, Scripture contains many instructions from Christ, some stated plainly, others revealed through parables and teachings. These are the hidden gems of God’s wisdom and counsel, waiting to be discovered by those who diligently search His Word.

For this reason, we are encouraged to cultivate the habit of daily Bible study. Approach Scripture with structure and purpose, so you do not merely read the Word, but uncover the truth, the call to action, and the blessings embedded in each passage. Using tools such as a concordance can also deepen understanding by connecting related Scriptures and revealing consistent themes across the Bible.

Whenever you encounter a command of God that is explicitly stated or implied—write it down and commit yourself to obeying it. Revisit these notes often to imprint God’s instructions upon your heart and spirit. Continually ask God for the grace to obey promptly, remembering that blessings are often released in the place of obedience.

Prayer Point:

Father, thank You for giving me Your commands. I ask for the grace to treasure and obey them wholeheartedly, like precious treasures, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
