Wisdom As Life to Your Soul, Grace to Your Neck

Proverbs 3:21-22 (KJV) – “My son, let not them depart from thine eyes: Keep sound wisdom and discretion: So shall they be life unto thy soul, And grace to thy neck.”

In these verses we are urged to keep wisdom and discretion constantly before us as daily companions with focus and intentionality. Wisdom requires attention. In a world full of noise, opinions, and distractions, God calls us to keep our eyes fixed on what is trueand right. Keeping “sound wisdom” speaks of stability and judgment rooted in truth rather than impulse while discretion speaks of discernment which is the ability to choose rightly in complex situations.

Sound wisdom gives stability. It helps us respond rather than react. Discretion gives clarity in moments that are complex or emotionally charged. Together, they protect us from impulsive decisions and careless words that can bring regret. Wisdom is not merely intelligence; it is applied truth guided by reverence for God.

When we guard these qualities they become life to our soul by providing inner strength and adorning grace to our neck which is visible beauty bestowed on us by God Himself. In ancient times, a necklace symbolized honor and beauty. Just as a necklace adorns the body, wisdom adorns a life and makes us visibly attractive.

Prayer

Lord, as I walk through this day, fill my heart with Your wisdom so that it produces grace in my life. Shape my thoughts, words, and actions according to Your truth. Let what You form within me shine through me for Your glory in Jesus name. Amen.
