The Origin of Temptation
Proverbs 7: 12- 20 (KJV)- “Now is she without, now in the streets, And lieth in wait at every corner.) So she caught him, and kissed him, And with an impudent face said unto him, I have peace offerings with me; This day have I payed my vows. Therefore came I forth to meet thee, Diligently to seek thy face, and I have found thee. I have decked my bed with coverings of tapestry, With carved works, with fine linen of Egypt. I have perfumed my bed With myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon. Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning: Let us solace ourselves with loves. For the goodman is not at home, He is gone a long journey: He hath taken a bag of money with him, And will come home at the day appointed.”
Temptation as the Bible says in James 1:14 that temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away. It comes when we are unable to let go of harmful and ungodly desires. God also says in 2 Corinthians 10:13 that we are not tempted beyond what we are able to bear. We must do all we can not to yield to temptation.
Like the woman in this passage, satan is restless and aggressive in pursuit, moving through the streets and “lying in wait at every corner.” The pseudo spirituality portrayed is a disguise and shows false sincerity. We must never be unsuspecting of the deception of Satan. He is never going to look out for our good. We must test all spirits and never be a pray for Satan or any of his agents.
Finally, the woman reassures him that there is no danger because “the goodman is not at home.” Jesus is our good savior and He is ever present with us. He knows, sees and feels what we feel. We must cry out to Him boldly to provide a way of escape. Ask God to help you at all times. Always trust in God and choose to do the right thing.
Prayer Point:
Father please keep me and my family safe above every kind of temptation in Jesus name. Amen.
