The Unsuspecting Danger of Temptation

Proverbs 7:21-23 (KJV)- “With her much fair speech she caused him to yield, with the flattering of her lips she forced him. He goeth after her straightway, As an ox goeth to the slaughter, Or as a fool to the correction of the stocks; Till a dart strike through his liver; As a bird hasteth to the snare, And knoweth not that it is for his life.”

From this passage the young man “yielded” by he allowing his emotions and desires to overpower his wisdom and self-control. The enemy understands the power of suggestion and uses deception to make sin appear attractive and harmless. Believers must therefore guard their hearts and minds carefully, testing every influence against God’s truth.

The young man is compared to “an ox going to the slaughter” and “a bird hastening to the snare.” These are powerful images of ignorance, blindness and danger. The ox walks calmly, unaware that death awaits, while the bird rushes into a trap without recognizing the threat. In the same way, what begins as a small compromise can open the door to greater captivity if not resisted early.

The phrase “till a dart strike through his liver” points to deep and painful consequences. However, there is hope in Christ. God gives wisdom, discernment, and strength to those who seek Him daily. Through prayer, obedience, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, believers can resist temptation and walk in purity, wisdom, and spiritual victory.

Prayer Point:
Heavenly Father, grant me discernment to recognize every form of deception and temptation so that I may walk in obedience and remain faithful to You in every season. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
