The Protection of Loving Wisdom

Proverbs 4:6 (NLT)- “Don’t turn your back on wisdom, for she will protect you. Love her, and she will guard you.”

Wisdom is one of God’s greatest gifts to those who seek Him. In Proverbs, wisdom is described as a guardian because it protects us from the consequences of poor decisions. Many difficulties people experience are not always because God abandoned them, but because choices were made without seeking wisdom. When we value wisdom, we pause, reflect, and invite God into our decision-making process.

Wisdom helps us look beyond immediate emotions and consider long-term outcomes. Instead of reacting impulsively, a wise person weighs options, seeks counsel, and listens to God’s guidance. This kind of discernment protects us from harmful paths, destructive habits, and relationships that may lead us away from God’s purpose.

When we “love” wisdom as Proverbs teaches, we begin to pursue it intentionally through prayer, Scripture, and reflection. Over time, wisdom shapes our thinking and becomes like a guard at the door of our lives helping us choose what is right and avoid what could harm us.

Prayer Point

Lord, fill my heart with Your wisdom. Help me to make decisions that honor You and protect me from choices that lead to harm. Teach me to pause, seek Your guidance, and walk in discernment every day in Jesus name. Amen.
