Putting God First 2
Proverbs 3:9–10 (NKJV)- “Honor the Lord with your possessions, And with the firstfruits of all your increase; So your barns will be filled with plenty, And your vats will overflow with new wine.”
Today, we will examine three possessions through which we can honor the Lord.
First, we must honor God with our hearts. Scripture tells us that the heart of man is desperately wicked and that from it flow all the issues of life. God desires our hearts because they reflect our trust, priorities, and affections. When our hearts are fully aligned with Him, everything else naturally follows. Giving God our heart is the first and most important offering we can present to Him.
Second, God has gifted us with time, one of the most valuable possessions we have. Time cannot be stored or recovered once it is gone, which is why we must place it in God’s hands and allow Him to guide us in using it wisely. We honor God with our time by intentionally prioritizing Him by seeking to know Him through prayer, reading Scripture, worship, and daily obedience. Even small, consistent moments spent with God can lead to powerful transformation in our faith.
Third, we honor God with our talents and abilities by serving others. Our unique skills, creativity, wisdom, and strengths are not meant to be hidden or used solely for personal gain. When we willingly offer them in service, we honor the One who gave them to us. God takes what we place in His hands and multiplies it for His greater purposes.
Prayer
God, thank You for the good heart, time and talents that You’ve placed in me. Show me how to use them to serve others and bring glory to You. Help me be faithful with what You’ve given me in Jesus name, amen.
