Putting God First

Proverbs 3:9–10 (NKJV)- “Honor the Lord with your possessions, And with the firstfruits of all your increase; So your barns will be filled with plenty, And your vats will overflow with new wine.”

God asks us to honor Him with ALL we have. In Bible times, “firstfruits” meant giving God the very first and best portion of the harvest. For us today, honoring God with our “firstfruits” means choosing to put Him first instead of fitting Him in last. It means trusting Him enough to give before we feel completely secure, to serve even when we’re busy, and to be generous even when it stretches us.

God promises to fill our barns with plenty, and overflowing new wine.” This refers to wisdom for material wealth, provision, sufficiency, and fullness of life. When we put God first, He meets our needs in ways that go beyond money including peace, contentment, joy, and a deep sense of being cared for.

Putting God first is an act of faith, a declaration that God is the true source of everything we hadve. Today, ask yourself how can I put God first in my life right now? It might be your finances, your time, your attention, or your talents. Wherever you choose to put God first, you’ll begin to see His faithfulness follow.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for being my provider and source. Teach me to trust You with my possessions, my time, and my heart. Help me to give You my first and my best, not my leftovers. Grow my faith so I can rely on You without fear, knowing that You will take care of my needs. I choose to honor You today and put You first in every area of my life in Jesus name, Amen.
