The Fear of God Brings Healing
Proverbs 3:7-8 (KJV)– “Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and depart from evil. It will be health to your flesh, And strength to your bones.”
Relying fully on God as a way of life brings health and strength not only to our bodies, but also to our peace, stability, resilience, and overall well-being. Following God leads to restoration in our bodies, minds, and souls. When we honor and respect Him in this way, our choices begin to change. We naturally turn away from things that harm us spiritually, emotionally, and even physically.
This verse gently challenges us because, as humans, we often have a tendency to trust ourselves more than we trust God. To be “wise in our own eyes” means believing that our understanding, feelings, or logic are sufficient to guide our lives. Yet God lovingly reminds us that our vision is limited. We see only in part, but God sees the whole picture.
Fearing the Lord is not about being afraid of Him. It is about honoring Him, trusting His wisdom, and acknowledging that He alone knows what leads to true life and lasting peace. Today, take a moment to retrace your steps from any area where you have relied solely on your own understanding. Choose instead to trust God’s wisdom over your instincts, so you may walk in wholeness, peace, and health all the days of your life.
Prayer
Lord, I admit that I often tempted to trust my own understanding more than Yours. Teach me to be humble enough to honor You in my thoughts, decisions, actions and give me the strength to turn from anything that doesn’t please you so that I can enjoy perfect health in Jesus name, Amen.
