A Way of Escape
Proverbs 5:22-23 (NLT)- An evil man is held captive by his own sins; they are ropes that catch and hold him. He will die for lack of self-control; he will be lost because of his great foolishness.
This Bible verse identifies the root problem of adultery as foolishness. It means living as if God’s wisdom does not matter and choosing temporary pleasure over lasting truth. Without self-control, desires take over and a person becomes driven by impulse which eventually becomes self-enslaving. A man is “held captive by his own sins” that gradually becomes a bondage.
Let us consider Solomon who The Lord had warned “You shall not enter into marriage with strangers, neither shall they with you, for surely they will turn away your heart after their gods.” Despite divine wisdom and clear warnings from God, he gave himself to foreign women who turned his heart away. His story stands as a cautionary example of how even the wise can fall when they ignore God’s instruction.
God is merciful and ready to forgive those who return to Him in sincerity. King David sinned greatly, yet he humbled himself, repented sincerely, and sought God wholeheartedly. Though forgiven, he still faced consequences but his broken and contrite heart was not despised by God. If you are guilty of the sins of sexual immorality, God has created a way of escape from sin’s consequences by confessing and repenting today so you can experience God’s restoration.
Prayer Point
Father, I confess my sins before You today. Please forgive me and cleanse me. Create in me a pure heart, and renew a right spirit within me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
