Who The Father Loves, He Corrects
Proverbs 4:1 (NLT)– “My children, listen when your father corrects you. Pay attention and learn good judgment.
Life often presents moments when we are corrected, whether by parents, mentors, leaders, or through the conviction we feel when reading God’s Word. Our natural reaction can sometimes be to resist correction because it feels uncomfortable and may make us feel small. Yet this verse reminds us that loving correction is actually a gift.
It is expected that wisdom is passed down as a father teaches his child, guiding him away from pitfalls along life’s journey. When we honor our parents by listening carefully and remaining teachable, we grow in understanding and begin to make wiser choices.
God desires that we develop good judgment, the ability to discern what is right, helpful, and life giving. Correction shapes our character and keeps us on the path of wisdom. When we humble ourselves and listen, we allow God to refine us and lead us into a more fruitful life. We should never reject correction, no matter where it comes from. Instead, we should see it as an opportunity for growth. The truth is that those whom God loves, He corrects and disciplines. A child who behaves poorly brings shame to his parents regardless of age, but a teachable heart brings honor. Therefore, whenever you are corrected, pause and ask yourself,
“What might God be teaching me through this moment?”
Prayer Point
Heavenly Father, give me a humble and teachable heart. Help me to receive correction with wisdom rather than pride. Teach me to listen carefully to Your Word and to the guidance You place in my life. Shape my character and help me grow in good judgment each day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
