Loved Enough to Be Corrected

Proverbs 3:11–12 (NKJV)- “My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, Nor detest His correction; For whom the Lord loves He corrects, Just as a father the son in whom he delights.”

This verse teaches us another important aspect of God’s love that is, His correction. Hebrews 12:6 reminds us that “whom the Lord loves He corrects.” The word chastening does not mean punishment meant to harm. Rather, it refers to loving discipline and firm guidance that helps us grow.

Just as a good parent corrects a child to protect them, guide them, and help them mature on the right path so that the child will grow into someone who brings honor, God corrects His children because He delights in them. His correction is always motivated by love and a desire for our growth.

As a new believer, you are learning a new way of living through God’s guidance. Because of this, some habits, attitudes, or decisions that once felt normal may no longer sit right with you. That inner discomfort is the Holy Spirit living within you, helping you grow and become more like Christ.

Prayer

Father God, thank You for loving me and delighting in me enough to guide and correct me. Give me a teachable heart, and help me not to resist Your discipline, but to trust Your loving heart behind it in Jesus’ name, amen.
