Understanding Yourself Through God’s Eyes
Proverbs 2:2 (NLT): “Tune your ears to wisdom, and concentrate on understanding.”
One meaningful place to focus on is understanding ourselves so we can grow in self-awareness, and position ourselves to walk more faithfully in the purpose He has designed for us.
Firstly focus on understanding your name. Your name carries history, intention, and often prayer. Take time to ask your parents what inspired it and reflect on how God may use that meaning to shape your journey. In doing so, you open your heart to walk more accurately in your ordained destiny.
Understanding your temperament is also part of this journey. Whether you are naturally expressive and outgoing or quiet and reflective, God has intentionally woven your personality together. There is no mistake in how He formed you. As you come to know yourself, you can serve Him and others more effectively, without comparison or self-judgment.
Pay close attention to your emotions. Notice what triggers fear, anxiety, or anger, and also what brings calm and peace to your spirit. These moments reveal areas where God desires to bring healing, maturity, and growth. Instead of reacting, invite the Holy Spirit to help you respond with wisdom and grace.
Guard your thoughts intentionally, aligning them with the truth of God’s Word. Philippians 4:8 (KJV) reminds us to think only about things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, of good report, of virtue, and full of praise. As you dwell on what honors God, your mind becomes renewed, and your heart grows stronger in Him.
Prayer
Father, I invite You into the journey of understanding myself. Search my heart and reveal the areas where I need growth. Help me to develop in places where I struggle, and shape me into who You have called me to be. I surrender my thoughts, emotions, and responses to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
