Treasuring God’s Word
Proverbs 7:1–2 (KJV)- “My son, keep my words, And lay up my commandments with thee. Keep my commandments, and live; And my law as the apple of thine eye.”
keeping God’s words is the key to living the ‘God kind’ of life on earth. This life is called ‘Zoe’ which is the eternal life of God we receive when we become born again. It is the reason Jesus came. John 10:20 says He came for one purpose: “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly”. This supernatural life is God imparting His very nature, substance, and being to our human spirits.
Becasue of the quality of this kind of life, today’s Bible verse instructs us to treasure His commandments by valuing God’s truth because it is meant to guide our decisions to avoid harmful paths and shape our character. This way we can live a joyful and peaceful life free of pain and confusion. Just as traffic laws protect drivers from danger, God’s commands protect our hearts from destruction.
We experience the fullness of His purpose and the joy that comes from living according to His will by keeping God’s law as “the apple of our eye,” and treating it as a priceless hearts treasure until it influences how we think, speak, and act. Our eyes are naturally protected because they are sensitive and essential; in the same way we must protect God’s truth because His Word strengthens us against temptation and empowers us to live victoriously every day.
Prayer Point:
Dear Lord, please help me to treasure Your Word and give me wisdom to obey You daily, and let Your Word guide, protect, and sustain my life in Jesus name. Amen.
