Keeping Wisdom Close to the Heart
Proverbs 7:3–4 (KJV)- “Bind them upon thy fingers, Write them upon the table of thine heart. Say unto wisdom, Thou art my sister; And call understanding thy kinswoman:”
This passage emphasizes the importance of making God’s commandments visible and ever-present in our daily actions just like our fingers. God’s truth should influence every decision, conversation, and activity. Writing His words upon the “table” of our hearts speaks of internalizing His truth so deeply that it becomes easy to reference even without having the Bible open before us.
The instruction to “Say unto wisdom, Thou art my sister; and call understanding thy kinswoman” reveals that we are to develop an intimate relationship with God’s wisdom, treating it as a trusted companion. This way we gain discernment to recognize right from wrong and avoid choices that lead to regret and destruction.
God desires that His Word is hidden in our hearts until we become sensitive to His direction and produces an extraordinary life marked by peace, discipline, and righteousness. The more we treasure wisdom, the more our thoughts, words, and actions begin to reflect God’s character in our everyday lives. We must place deep value on wisdom and understanding in all our doings.
Prayer Point:
Dear Lord, please help me to hide Your Word deeply in my heart and to walk daily in Your wisdom and understanding in Jesus’ name. Amen.
