Guided by a Loving Father
Proverbs 3:1–2 (KJV)- “My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments. For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.”
These chapter open with words that sound deeply personal: “My son.” God does not speak to us as a distant ruler, but as a loving Father. He knows that life can be confusing, painful, and full of choices, so He gently calls His children to listen and remember His ways.
When God says, “forget not my law,” He means forgetting not His instruction. When we stop paying attention to His Word, stop praying, or begin relying only on ourselves, we will eventually forget His laws. This verse encourages us to intentionally keep God’s truth in front of us every day.
The passage adds “let thine heart keep my commandments” because God cares deeply about the heart. He wants our heart to treasures His guidance, trusts His character, and chooses His way because He is good.
God then gives a promise of long life and peace. This means that God’s way of living protects us from many unnecessary wounds and gives us inner peace, even when life is difficult. When we choose to remember His Word and guard it in our hearts, we grow in wisdom, closeness with God, and bask in His care.
Prayer
Heavenly Father thank You for loving me and speaking to me with care. Help me remember Your Word each day and treasure it in my heart. Fill my life with Your peace as I place my heart in Your hands. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
