The Things God Hates
Proverbs 6:16–17 (NLT)- “There are six things the Lord hates— no, seven things he detests: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that kill the innocent,”
Today we are reminded that God is not indifferent to how we live. A “Haughty eyes” point to prideful posture that elevates oneself above others and even above God. Pride subtly creeps into our thoughts, shaping how we speak and act. When we humble ourselves, we align our hearts with His grace and make room for His guidance in our daily lives.
The verse also mentions “a lying tongue,” highlighting that words carry power to either heal or harm, build or destroy. In a world where deception can sometimes feel convenient or even rewarded, God calls His people to integrity. Speaking truth is not always easy, but it reflects God’s own nature. Choosing honesty builds trust and honors Him. It shapes our character into one that mirrors His faithfulness.
Finally, “hands that kill the innocent” speaks to the value God places on life and justice. This extends to how we treat people in our thoughts, words, and actions. Harboring hatred, bitterness, or indifference can wound others deeply. God desires that we become people who protect, uplift, and love those around us especially the vulnerable. Examine your heart today and surrender anything that does not reflect His love.

Lord, search my heart and remove every trace of pride, dishonesty, and harmful intent. Help me to walk in humility, speak truth, and act with love toward others in Jesus name. Amen.
