The Safety of Wisdom
Proverbs 2:12–15 (NLT)- “Wisdom will save you from evil people, from those whose words are twisted. These men turn from the right way to walk down dark paths. They take pleasure in doing wrong, and they enjoy the twisted ways of evil. Their actions are crooked, and their ways are wrong.
God’s wisdom gives us protection from men with evil hearts and motives. Evil often does not announce itself clearly but speaks with twisted words, disguising harm as opportunity, compromise as wisdom, and wrongdoing as harmless. Without God’s wisdom, it is easy to be deceived by persuasive speech or confident personalities. But wisdom trains us to listen beneath the words and to watch the direction of a person’s life.
The passage also reveals a sobering truth: some people take pleasure in doing wrong. Wisdom helps us accept this reality without becoming cynical. Instead of trying to change or rescue those who delight in crooked ways, wisdom teaches us when to step back, set boundaries, and choose the right path even when it costs us socially or professionally.
Ultimately, wisdom keeps us aligned with God’s way. As we walk in wisdom, our desires change. Darkness loses its appeal and crooked ways no longer attract us. We learn not only to avoid evil people, but to become people of integrity ourselves, straightforward, and rooted in truth.
