Envy Not The Violent
Proverbs 3:31–32 (NLT)- “Don’t envy violent people or copy their ways. Such wicked people are detestable to the Lord, but he offers his friendship to the godly.”
At times, it may seem like people who are wicked, oppressive or unfair get ahead more quickly. It can be easy to compare and wonder if their way is more effective. This proverb gently reminds us not to envy them or follow their example. As the psalmist mentioned in Psalm 73:18-19 God sets up the wicked on slippery ground and suddenly they fall, completely overcome by destruction and fear. God holds the hand of the just and He is always with us placing us in the right path- a path of peace and lasting prosperity.
As believers, we are invited to live differently, choosing patience, honesty, and trust in God even when it feels slower. The Lord sees our faithfulness, even when others do not. God cares deeply about how we treat others. Actions that harm, manipulate, or take advantage of people do not reflect His heart. While the world may overlook these behaviors, God values kindness, justice, and humility. He looks beyond outward success and sees the motives within us. What matters most to Him is a heart that desires to walk in His ways.
The promise in this passage is beautiful and comforting. God offers His friendship to those who seek to live in a way that honors Him. This does not mean being perfect. It means sincerely wanting to follow Him and trusting Him with our lives. When we choose His way, we experience closeness with Him that is far more meaningful than any temporary gain.

Father, help me to value Your ways above the world’s ways. Keep my heart away from wickedness and draw me closer into friendship with You. Amen.
